Wild and Free Lounge Pants by Coffee + Thread Patterns

You should think my daughter read the pattern description of these pants because it says they are 'designed with an active child in mind' and I do not have a single shot with a still pose in this post, ha perfect.

It's the Wild and Free Lounge Pants from Coffee + Thread Patterns I'm talking about.

I did debate whether I should post these photos because they are not totally fair to the pattern. I made them partly in quilted knit which is not within the pattern's fabric recommendations. And I also accidentally made them too long plus I made the waist elastic a bit too loose despite a fitting - gah, get it together Mie! So they slide a bit down on her and makes a bit of a funny front crotch area. It's not something anyone notices when she is running around and being an active child in real life. But there is a different focus in a blog post for a piece of clothing made for a pattern you want to say good things about.... because it IS a good pattern! (And you know by now that I'm not just saying that, right!)

The pattern has the cutest options for different sewn animal ears you can attach to the cut off seam at the knee plus templates and instructions on how to add fabric painted animal faces to the knees.
If she knew there was that option with these pants, I guarantee you I would get some demands, ha.
I'm still terrified of fabric paint (yeah, don't ask...I don't even know why?) so I went in a more cool than cute direction. You know, just for variation. I totally want to try the animal versions too.

The quilted knit is from Miss Matatabi and the grey knit is The Laguna Knit from Robert Kaufman which is an amazing and very versatile knit. It does not have crazy drape (but it is still soft) so it is definitely perfect for kids leggings (adults might want something a bit thicker, not sure?).

They have a pocket option too and you can really have some fun playing with fabrics. I definitely had some 'fun' unpicking my coverstitch seams because they looked drunk, ha. But luckily this pattern also (just like the Groove Dress in my previous post) comes with different options for making the pocket depending on skills, machinery and temper, phew. Or you can skip it all together and move on with your day.

This photo cracks me up. Why to kids always pull waaay down when they put their hands in their pockets?? Jeez, ha.

Here is a photo of the front before the pants started sliding down. This is how they will look in the right size and in thinner fabric.

I have already talked your ears off about this tee on social media so I will do it super brief.
She made this awesome drawing, I mentioned that I wanted it on a tee. A sweet blogger informed me about ink printer transfer sheets and a fews weeks later I made a certain 6 year old very very happy. This is not a sponsored post but I used the ones from AVERY for white or light colored fabric and they worked perfectly. I haven't washed the tee yet so I don't have any experiences there yet but it should work just fine according to Amazon reviews.

I used the Safari Raglan Tee from Titchy Threads for the tee because we know that always deliver great results.

I made these a size 6 and with a size 7 length which turned out to be too long for her (she turned 6 in January) but instead of shorten them I just roll them up so they will last longer.

Please proceed that way madam for your own Wild and Free Lounge Pants pattern.

Thank you!

I am running out of superlatives for your sewing, Mie. (oh and my daughters do that when they stick their hands in their pockets, too. Drives me crazy when trying to taking pictures, gah!)

  11. Love this post! And these photos! Goodness they are superb! That light!!! You are way too hard on yourself - the pants looks amazing! I love what you did with them! And it's good to know that even you, Mie, sometimes create something that is not technically perfect. Though I am totally taking your word for it, because based on the photos - it looks perfect!

  12. I love the pants Mie! I think they are super cool. That quilted knit is all kinds of awesome. And the shirt has so much meaning for her. You can tell she loves this outfit. It's funny because the things I see the kids that I knit pick about mistakes are the thins they love to wear the most.
